Unikool.it stories. The story of Yasmin Hussain: woven fabrics with traditional material.
I am Yasmin Hussain and I graduate at Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London specialising in the construction of woven fabrics. Throughout the early part of my degree, I produced designs using the more traditional materials such as silks, wools and rayons. Some of these collections were inspired by patterns in my cultural background.
I was selected to be part of Texprint 2015 and have displayed and sold a range of my designs in Paris Premier Vision in September. More recently, I have completed an internship with Katrien Van Hecke who is a fashion/print designer based in Belgium.
My most recent collection is made for interiors. I am currently designing a range of monochrome wall hangings and cushions inspired by geometric shapes.
I’d say that the most difficult thing is trying to get the exposure and making your name known in the industry.
I would need an electronic loom in order to make my project grow faster. However, this is not possible at this moment.
My brand is mainly marketed through social media.
My main competitors are high street brands such as John Lewis and Zara home. However, each of my products are hand woven from scratch and this is my unique selling point.
The most part of my communication is online, so I keep in touch with my clients through my website, Utelier and my Etsy shop, these links are listed below.

I think your project is really interesting and I really like the fact that you support emerging designers.
